Laser therapy (also called photobiomodulation therapy or PBMT) is a non-invasive treatment used to help reduce pain, decrease inflammation, and support the body’s natural healing process. It can be used for both acute and chronic conditions and is often incorporated into a personalized treatment plan to help improve comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life.
But how do you know if your pet may benefit from laser therapy?
Your pet may be a good candidate for PBMT if they experience:
✨ Arthritis or joint stiffness
✨ Difficulty getting up, climbing stairs, or jumping
✨ Back or neck pain
✨ Hip dysplasia or mobility concerns
✨ Soft tissue injuries or muscle soreness
✨ Tendon or ligament injuries
✨ Post-surgical pain or delayed healing
✨ Ear inflammation or skin irritation
✨ Wounds, hot spots, or slow-healing areas
✨ Chronic inflammation
✨ Anxiety, tension, or stress-related behaviors
PBMT works by delivering light energy to the mitochondria of the cells. The mitochondria produce ATP, which is the energy source cells use to repair and restore damaged tissue. Increased ATP production may help improve circulation, decrease inflammation, reduce pain signals, and support tissue healing at the cellular level.
One of the unique benefits of laser therapy is that it may also help support nervous system regulation. By influencing the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, some pets experience relaxation and calming effects during treatment sessions. Many pets become so comfortable during therapy that they relax or even fall asleep.
Laser therapy can be used alongside conventional medications, acupuncture, chiropractic care, rehabilitation, or as a stand-alone therapy depending on the patient and condition being treated. Treatment plans vary based on whether the issue is acute or chronic, as well as the pet’s individual response to therapy.
We utilize two different laser devices to help tailor treatment to each patient’s needs, including both deeper tissue treatment and low-level light therapy for more sensitive areas or patients who cannot tolerate touch.
